Commonly Confused:  Plurals and Possessives

 

Here we continue with our unit on possessives. Here is an exercise to help you to distinguish between a plural form and a possessive form. This will help you with your reading and with your writing.

One of the most common areas in which writing errors occur involves confusing plural forms with possessive forms.

The plural forms of nouns are often confused with the possessive forms of nouns because they sound similiar. They are spelled differently, however, so be careful when you write.

Each of the words below is either a noun or a possessive form.  Study each one and determine if it is a noun or a possessive.  Determine if it's a singular or plural noun, or a singular or plural possessive.  Place it in the proper column in the chart.
