Adjectives and Adverbs

In today's Grammar HELP! Student Handbook - Online! lesson, we continue our unit on Adjectives and Adverbs. For the next few lessons, we will be focusing on adjectives.

You can read our prior lesson, Descriptive Adjectives, before you begin today with the exercises.

Nouns that Function as Adjectives

A noun can often function as an adjective.  In the following sentences, notice that the word in each adjective position is a word that is familiar to you as a noun:

  • Advertisements on TV, in bride magazines, and on talk shows provide telephone numbers of agencies that provide marriage counseling.

  • I am working hard in my math class.

Singular or Plural?

Since these are now in the adjective position and function as descriptive adjectives, we need to follow the rules of descriptive adjectives.  Thus, do not change the form of the adjective when the head noun is plural.
