What Is a Noun Clause?


Each of the following sentences contains a noun clause that required editing.   Watch for correct word order, verb tense and punctuation.

1.  ...I heard people talk about how important clean water was.

2.  I couldn't have imagined how challenging it would be to live in a new environment.

3.  I was told how dangerous smoking is for my health.

4.  I know how hard life is.

5.  Sometimes you wonder why some people do such awful things.

6.  I used to think that my vote wouldn't change the outcome of the election.

7.  I never told her about my problems because I knew she would never help me.

8. Frederick Douglass believed that only an education could make him a real human being who could control his own life.
